Anne Kingsmill Finch was an English poet, born in 1661 and died in 1720. She wrote during the Restoration and early Augustan periods, becoming one of the few widely recognized female poets of her time. Her verse often explores the natural world, melancholy, female friendship, and the constraints placed on women. She served as a maid of honour to Mary of Modena before her marriage to Heneage Finch, who later became the Earl of Winchilsea. Her husband actively supported her literary pursuits. Finch published a collection titled Miscellany Poems on Several Occasions in 1713, which included poems admired for their quiet contemplation and formal skill. Later poets, including William Wordsworth, valued her work and helped revive interest in it. She holds a place in literary history as an early English woman poet who achieved recognition beyond her immediate circle.
