Biografie

Eva Gore-Booth was an Irish poet and social activist born in 1870 at Lissadell, County Sligo, and died in 1926 in London. Her poetry, which includes collections such as Poems (1898), The One and the Many (1904), and The Agate Lamp (1912), is characterized by mystical and spiritual imagery, often exploring themes of nature, pacifism, and the search for inner truth. Deeply involved in the women's suffrage movement and social reform, she lived in Manchester with her lifelong companion Esther Roper, and her verse frequently reflects her commitment to nonviolence and equality. Gore-Booth is associated with the Irish Literary Revival, though her work often transcends national boundaries in its universalist and mystical concerns. She is remembered not only as the sister of Constance Markievicz but as a significant feminist and pacifist voice in early twentieth-century poetry.
