Psalm III: My God, How Many Are My Fears
Biographie
Isaac Watts was an English Nonconformist minister, theologian, and poet of the late 17th and early 18th centuries. His poetry is noted for its doctrinal depth, personal piety, and accessibility, often rendering complex theological ideas into simple, memorable verse. Themes include divine love, redemption, and moral instruction, expressed through clear imagery and metrical regularity. He is widely regarded as the father of English hymnody, with over 600 hymns to his name. Notable works include "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross" and "Joy to the World," which have become staples of Christian worship. Watts also authored works on logic and ethics, such as "Logic, or The Right Use of Reason." His contributions reshaped congregational singing, moving it away from strict psalmody to more expressive, original texts. His legacy endures in the continued performance of his hymns and his influence on later poets and hymn writers.
