Dear would be daughter,
You may never have met me before and maybe never will
But I'm your would be father
And have a whole life to share with you still

I'd be the one to teach you life's lessons
like stay away from boys
I'd comfort and protect you
And fix all your broken toys

I'd light up with your laughter
And fight away all your fears
I'd proudly watch you grow
And wipe away all your tears

Dear would be daughter,
You may not remember me but I always remember you
And though you were never born
I see you growing too

It's your would be birthday
With all your would be friends
there's would be joy and laughter
That your little girl smile would spread.

I got you a new bike that you didn't know how to ride
You crashed and scraped your knee
But just like I promised I never left your side

Dear would be daughter,
you had your first would be date today
Thank your would be mother you got to go
I wasn't going to just give my would be little girl away

You looked so beautiful in that makeup and dress
I couldn't help but smile at how much you'd grown
But on the inside this date filled my heart with worry and stress.

And as if that isn't bad enough still you come home late
We fought about it at first though it didn't last
After all you're still daddy's would be little princess
And when you cry my would be anger is something of the past

Dear would be daughter
Today's your would be big day
I was asked for your hand in marriage
By that boy I tried to scare away.

My hands are sweaty and my mouth dry
I walk you down the would be isle
I feel a powerful mix of happy and sad
Either way I'll just want to cry

We get to the altar But I can't pull my arm away
From my would be greatest treasure
You kiss my cheek and in the sweetest voice I hear you say
"I love you too daddy and everything's gonna be okay"

Dear would be daughter
Today is our last would be moment
The last time I see your would be face
The last time I can tell you what this would be life meant

I've enjoyed the would be years of watching you live and grow
Remembering the would be memories the two of us did sow
But as I lie on this sterile bed an old and dying man
I take comfort knowing there are no more would be's
and I can finally hold your not would be hand
