I look after
all morning the one
I am at night
You say you wanna die,
I know thats a lie,
You say you are ok,
I know thats fake,
You say you don't care,
I say thats not fair,
You say thats alright,
I say thats not ok,
You say "I give up",
I say thats okay
Cause I am here.
Why did you pick me?
knowing that you would
later on struggle to take care
of me the same way i took care
of you.
No matter how many times
i told you,
you never bothered to dehead me
the same way that i deheaded you,
so that i can, like you, maintain
my appearance
and blossom.
I want someone to care about me
in the same way I care about you.
I want someone to memorise little specific things about me
in the same way that i do for you.
I want someone to smile when they know they've made my day a little bit better
in the same way that I do for you.
I want someone to be scared to lose me,
to want to hold me,
to consider risking their life,
to cry themselves to sleep,
to put on a specific perfume,
to write me secret love notes only to never give them,
to think about me as the love interest of their story,
to relate the song to me,
to say that i was their childhood crush,
in the same way i do for you.
You said "I don't care"
Then why do you bother yourself to let me know that.
You cared enough.
You were forever finding some new play.
So when I saw you down on hands and knees
In the meadow, busy with the new-cut hay,
Trying, I thought, to set it up on end,
I went to show you how to make it stay,
If that was your idea, against the breeze,
And, if you asked me, even help pretend
To make it root again and grow afresh.
But ’twas no make-believe with you to-day,
Nor was the grass itself your real concern,
Though I found your hand full of wilted fern,
Steel-bright June-grass, and blackening heads of clover.
’Twas a nest full of young birds on the ground
The cutter-bar had just gone champing over
(Miraculously without tasting flesh)
And left defenseless to the heat and light.
When April scatters coins of primrose gold
Among the copper leaves in thickets old,
And singing skylarks from the meadows rise,
To twinkle like black stars in sunny skies ;
When I can hear the small woodpecker ring
Time on a tree for all the birds that sing ;
And hear the pleasant cuckoo, loud and long —
The simple bird that thinks two notes a song ;
When I can hear the woodland brook, that could
Not drown a babe, with all his threatening mood;
Upon whose banks the violets make their home,
And let a few small strawberry blossoms come :
When I go forth on such a pleasant day,
One breath outdoors takes all my care away ;
It goes like heavy smoke, when flames take hold
My mother dandled me and sang,
'How young it is, how young!'
And made a golden cradle
That on a willow swung.
'He went away,' my mother sang,
'When I was brought to bed,'
And all the while her needle pulled
The gold and silver thread.
She pulled the thread and bit the thread
And made a golden gown,
And wept because she had dreamt that I
Was born to wear a crown.
'When she was got,' my mother sang,
'I heard a sea-mew cry,
And saw a flake of the yellow foam
That dropped upon my thigh.'
