the lament of men that lie in the streets
some cursing
some praying
hot words locked up
the key is kindness
but close by a corpse I am come
almost to think nothing of it
I half live
in the looking glass
fair as sand
I turn to follow the light
that mad thing
having met my corpse
a deer is more than ink
something real
yet the expectation of profit
will make a man bland
like a lone shoe
or the corpse I find in my head
I made myself a pair:
my clock and I,
my corpse and I
set forth together,
greedy to see.
Today I woke up cold .
I stood up and my limbs were stiff .
As stiff as terrible restaurant bread .
I got dressed and went to work only to be met by strange and terrified looks .
My boss called me into his office .
He was a strong man . But upon sight of me he turned pale as if he had seen a corpse .
He told me to have the day off .
So I decided to go to a date .
When she saw me she spewed vomit all over our table and shrieked and ran away .
I went home burdened with a heavy sadness .
Why did everyone look at me like I was some freak ??
I decided to look in a mirror to see what they saw .
And too my shock I was met with a pale grotesque corpse looking back .I think I may be a corpse .
I took the skin of corpses
And dyed them blue for dreams
Oh I can wear these everywhere
(I sat home in my jeans).
I cut the hair of corpses
And wove myself a sheath
Finer than silk or wool I thought
And shivered underneath
I cut the ears of corpses
To make myself a hood --
Warmer than forget-me-nots
I paid for that in blood.
I robbed the eyes of corpses
So I could face the sun
But all the days had cloudy skies
And I had lost my own.
The millway path looks like a wraith,
The lock is black as ink,
And silently in stream and sky
The stars begin to blink.
I see them pass along the grass
With slow and solemn tread:
Aoibheall, their queen, is in between--
A corpse is at their head!
They wander on with faces wan,
And dirges sad as wind.
I know not, but it may be that
The dead's of human kind.
