the street full
of a great forest
ivy stops business
I find a discrete coffee house
where we take some out-of-town light
to profit off the morning
I make nothing
but order, get things
ready against the ivy,
a grave jealous of the kitchen.
I was so satisfied, I wept.
Give me a good
reason for being.
Think: let blood
go to ink, ivy in
the evening sing
our house to bed.
ancient seabed
a sudden roar
from the quarry
higher pitched
than my memory
first cicada
which tree
will be today’s gnomon
great grey slug
I just found these coral fungi less than 50 feet from my front porch. Why don’t I ever go back here? I muttered as I crouched down to take a shot.
Then I stood up and saw all the poison ivy. That’d be the reason.
I am so very sorry
this was not meant to happen
this wonderful creation has been ruined
it's crazy how quickly things can happen
in the blink of an eye
something that has been building up over years
is destroyed completely
never to be rebuilt
the ivy leaves will grow up the walls of our castle
the old stone will turn to ruin
and overgrown plants
you and I will be new separate castles
each far away
but I will never forget the mistakes
I made in it
so I beg of you
High above the Canyon Freeway
Amid a sea of ivy
Float numerous shiny-stoned buildings
Which comprise Chapparal State College.
Beneath the ivy lie wild strawberries.
These are in the process of decaying,
Causing a pungent odor to fill the air.
Few students know about the strawberries;
They think the smell comes from a broken gas-main.
I have tried to spread the news of the strawberries;
But the students only smile.
And when my back is turned, they laugh.
If I could just get a few of them
To look under the ivy with me.
