Balachandran V
Did you notice how, suddenly
My voice thickened with pleasure?
My eyes softened with happiness?
My words brimmed with pride
My eyes shone with love -
As you crossed the threshold
I pointed at you and said -
“That’s my friend”!
I did not expect
to meet you here,
gazing
from this horizon.
Dreams are eyes fixed on closed doors
And on threshold-lights lighting cold floors.
Dreams are doors swung strangely back
On the wonder of a ribbony track.
Dreams are voices, echoed and thinned,
Calling . . . drowned out in the wind.
Dreams are feet on the edge of lands
Feeling the suck of hidden sands.
I LOVE the stone of your threshold,
I love the path without it,
I love the briar in its borders,
With the brave young plants about it.
There is pleasure in sight of your windows.
And passing, in decorous night,
I smile my love to your window
And bow my love to your light.
