Genevieve Taggard was an American poet of the early twentieth century. She was born in 1894 and died in 1948. Her work often combined lyricism with social criticism, addressing labor, economic injustice, and the natural world. She drew on imagery from her early life in Hawaii and later from the Vermont landscape. Taggard was associated with leftist literary circles and edited the anthology "May Days" in 1925. She taught at Sarah Lawrence College and published numerous collections, including "For Eager Lovers" and "Calling Western Union." Her poetry contributed to the proletarian literature movement of the 1930s.
