Biografie

Rupert Brooke was an English poet born in 1887. He became one of the most celebrated poets of the early 20th century, associated with the Georgian Poetry movement. His poetry often blended traditional forms with a lyrical, romantic sensibility, frequently exploring themes of nature, love, and patriotism. His war sonnets, particularly "The Soldier," expressed a noble, self-sacrificial view of war that resonated deeply with the public during the early stages of World War I. Brooke's untimely death in 1915 en route to Gallipoli cemented his status as a symbol of youthful idealism and lost promise. His collection "1914 & Other Poems" was published posthumously and achieved widespread popularity. Though later reassessed against the disillusionment of later war poets, his work remains a poignant testament to the pre-war and early-war sensibility.
