W. B. Yeats was an Irish poet and playwright born in 1865 and died in 1939. He was a central figure in the Irish Literary Revival and co-founded the Abbey Theatre. His poetry draws on Irish folklore, mythology, and occult symbolism, often addressing themes of love, aging, and national identity. Yeats's style evolved from late Romantic lyricism to a more modern, condensed, and symbolic mode, employing concepts such as the mask and antithesis. He served as a senator of the Irish Free State and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1923. His notable collections include The Tower and The Winding Stair and Other Poems.
