Under quarantine

an open door and other simplicities

give occasion to call a journey the way

but not as well as an ancient cellar

where we went down and drank fine rain

holding hands of cards lying together

with the only violin dead of the plague

Erasure poem derived from The Diary of Samuel Pepys, Tuesday 8 October 1667.
