Lonely

When you are lonely, The world is a void. Cities have sunken Into the ground. Dreams have died, Buried alive Like flowers In a late snowstorm. Hope has been Crushed like those Unwanted insects We step on Every day. When you are lonely, Your soul is Just a speck Of dust In the wind, Blowing through The atmosphere. You can't cling To anything That is left Because each part Of yourself Is a grain of sand In the wind. When you are lonely, Your happiness Is a caged bird. It can't leave And so it Opens its throat And sings sad thoughts Which drift Into your head Like those air particles Blown in your face When you fan yourself To escape the heat Of a summer's day. When you are lonely, Your longings For a different life In another city Pour out like April showers, Heaven's tears. What you want to be And what you are Fight a duel In your head. And the only victory Is a castle of tears. Because tears Are the only sights You get to see And the only sensations You have the right to feel When you are lonely.
