Casey's Gas Station

There was someone walking Turning the corner of the gas station aisle Blond hair that reached their shoulders Paper bones, smudged rings around their eyes They appeared old It wasn't the creases in their skin Their mouth was curved down They looked bereaved Worn down Exhausted

I smiled and nodded at them They didn't smile back They probably never saw me Their gaze fixated on nothing They walked past me And I walked past too
