Reticent Star

A lone star shines bright in the sky. It reminds me of you, actually. A bright light in the endless abyss. A sole hope against the dark ceiling above.

My Reticent star, you are the only one for me. You do not see yourself as I see you. A hot mess, a tangle of toxicity and flame. But that is not what you are to me.

As my eyes adjust to the night, as the clouds move away, I see the other stars. Not as bright. Not as beautiful. They mean nothing to me. There is no star to surpass you. I deserve better, you say, but where? I see no equal.

I focus my eyes back on you, my bright, beautiful, shining star. I gaze upon your glory. I blink, and you blink back. You. Blink back at me. Something is amiss... I know. I know what you are now.

A fucking airplane. A god damned. Motherfucking. Airplane.

Why must you ruin my metaphors? Bitch, get the fuck out. Let a real star take your place. Honestly. The fucking nerve.

A lone airplane shines bright in the sky. Despite it not being an adequate representation of your beauty, It still reminded me of you, my Reticent star.
