Cold
This cold clings to me Embracing every aspect of me Squeezing out my rational thoughts Forcing me into blankets and bundles Shivering, huddled, crowded and mind-muddled Unable to move I am still I close my eyes I pray for the chill to creep away And all I can think of is the cold cold today At least at night I can dream It can seem like my hands aren't iced And my breath isn't fogged I rest, warm, toasty, a mossy log But arising, the clouds block the sky The sun is shy And it's too frigid to cry Sweaters, sweats, pants Button-ups, coats, cloaks Still, chill penetrates Shoves its way in between the threads Pierces my skin and taunts me from within With each blow, The icy wind My heater died and there's till weeks left of winter I'm no longer opposed to global warming
