We struggle by night, and wait for the day
Eyes wide open, blinking dreams away Voices saunter in, stars glow in the dark They glow against swirls of blue and white The silence rings in my ears, loud as a singing lark The wind breezes through dusty grills and runs its fingers along my heels Toes wiggle, remembering sunnier days of spinning about in the grass in wheels The night is but a haven of ashes that remains of the phoenix's glorious flight A million stars, not stifled by the sky Rain upon me their lowly light The sheets are pulled up to my chin My small bubble of warmth and safety Even with the raging thoughts inside The bubble holds itself sturdily Deep breaths I take, but my heart still pounds almost desperately, wanting to be free for once But it is trapped in its cage like I am in my mind Waiting, like me, for the saving grace of the sun.
