The Question of Forever

The darkness of the clouds rumbled Like the laugh of a vengeful god Whose teeth are crimson So all who met him were forced to wonder Whether he was symbolic Of love or self destruction And whether those are actually the same thing And as if to prove the ambiguity Of the gods, he knelt On the cloudy day and prayed To worship a concrete idol Everyday after that And he begged her To let him feign worship of her He begged for the void of forever And she gazed up at the sky Her eyes turning perfectly the color Of their thundering god’s teeth With just as much ambiguity She whispered “Just for a second” The rain fell down on them Both like they were just one And refused to lessen the ambiguity Forever plaguing The answer to any particular question Especially those pertaining To the ambiguity of forever And proving them both giants To each drop of rain
