Days of Rain and Longing

When it rains early in the morning When the clouds veil the rising sun Fresh raindrops showering from the grey skies Make a gloomy day for all but one. I love the noiseless drizzle A silent spring gushing forth Trees swaying in unison When the wind blows north - In vain I hold my umbrella Against the gambolling spray A misty blur of green and blue Where I willingly lose my way! On days like these I often wish From the fathomless deep of my soul For a quaint something so far within That I know it not at all; Even when the soothing draught Waters the sweet forget-me-not Famished and arduous I burn Longing for I know not what.
