Even When

Mike StoneRomantic

I will always love you,

Even when I don’t always say,

Even when my lips stop saying,

Even when I have no lips to say.

Even when no one remembers how to say. Even when there is no one left to say,

I will always love you.

Summary

Mike Stone's "Even When" is a short promise, and what makes it hit is how far the speaker is willing to stretch it. The poem begins and ends with the same plain sentence, "I will always love you," and in between it keeps pushing the word "always" to its limit.
