Recluse

down comes night like a severe fly

I never see more than the ugly street and a couple of pigeons all day

light over the fields puts me in mind of when I used to shoot

and a pretty wife lies with so many lies

I go up to my chamber till midnight that grace

Erasure poem derived from The Diary of Samuel Pepys, Sunday 12 May 1667.
