learning

you taught me that love can be an amazing and beautiful thing but you also taught me that love will keep you up till midnight crying softly to yourself, wondering how much more pain someone can endure

games

I know it's silly but I used to play a game in my head trying to find a reason to believe you might change your mind If that car turns left, you still love me If it's not past midnight, you still love me If that girl sits in that chair, you still love me If it's sunny tomorrow, you still love me and I don't think I ever really believed that stupid game would mean anything but now I know for sure it didn't because that car turned left it was not yet midnight that girl sat in that chair

letting go

I tried explaining why I still love you but nothing would come out that was when I realised I didn't know why either.

goodbye

Thank you for all the smiles you gifted to me, and for making my heart flutter and squeeze until the stars disappeared into the sunrise.

the other woman

'choose.' i said, 'me or her.' but it wasn't that simple not for you it wasn't coke or pepsi cats or dogs sun or rain it was the difference between 'i love you' and 'i need you' soft goodnight kisses or rough morning sex big smiles and tenderness and a girl that just made you so happy or late nights and alcohol and a girl that made you feel alive so when i said, 'choose.' when i said, 'me or her.' you looked at me like i was asking you the most unfair question in the world you said, 'i love you,' and my heart fell on cracked pavement broke right down the middle

invisible strings

The invisible strings that held her together Were slowly breaking apart And unravelling the mess she kept inside Dangerously close to her heart. She felt the tears at the rim of her eyes Threatening to spill and break free But she blinked them back as hard as she could Out of fear somebody would see. She wanted to appear like she had it together So she tried to put on a show But the pressure she placed on herself was too great And the invisible strings let go.

false assumptions

The teardrops run down, And fall of her nose, She cries in dark corners, Where nobody goes You can follow the tracks, From her eyes to her chin, Years upon years, Of letting them win, And her eyes tell a story of anger and pain, You think that she's happy, But look again, Her smile is now painted, She's a master of disguise, But you can see it all, Just look into her eyes.

contradiction

Some days, I feel everything at once. Other days, I feel nothing at all. I don't know what's worse: Drowning beneath the waves Or dying from thirst.

nostalgia

l looked at a picture of us You had the most breathtaking smile What happened to the little girl that dreamed the impossible That would hide behind mum when she was shy You don't smile much anymore and the things that do make you smile aren't who you really are I miss that little girl that believed in herself that thought she could do anything l'm sorry that I couldn't protect you From a world that broke your heart I just want to see you smile like you used to

exhaustion

I am tired, not for lack of rest - no, I slept quite well last night, and I've had my coffee. it's something deeper, something inherently present, in the fibres of my skin, in my tendons, in my eyes. I am exhausted, fatigued by life, by the noise and the silence, the people, and the empty rooms, light and dark; hope and despair.
