see how they run to the law
to get business done
a mole in a hole is a strange
husband to the ant
in amber I see
my whole study
of one binding business
before the evening
comes to try
man and ant
a cold place is my mind
ear of ice
all the din of desire
is ants in a cake
people at their sports
the tin ill morning
morning brought new
velvet life to the crow
his wanting lung round and angry
bled raw salt
many were the knives strange was the ink
taken to the strangers’ table
that earth where
he would not sit
but in discontent went up
and down and up
the only trumpet
for a company of ants
in order to prevent surprise
we read like fools
only here and there a bit
and without moving
to give thanks for pain
or the power of a rose
preach a sermon full of rope
text with one mind
and one mouth
give glory
to the great variety of creatures
that animate dead bodies
ants like little friars
where I walk head aching
with the healths I was forced to drink
ants work in the garden
like a cold fire
no wit or language
work below
the bottom of the wall
a little life I study
how to do
time among books—
my dinner by and by
gone with the ants
I give my fish
to a pretty woman
and lay my head in the water—
which spoiled it.
I am sorry that I am not at London
to hide among the ants.
You are waiting for the next thing to be popular so you can admit how much you’ve come to loathe the last thing. But with this economy, who knows whether there will even be a next thing? That last thing might be the last thing ever, in which case you will someday come to miss it with all the fervent conviction of nostalgia.
tea for two
the ant holding a crumb
above her head
Please watch your step.
You may be stepping on lives.
That is, if you consider
An ant, a frog, a cockroach or me
Lives worth your consideration.
These flowers? Ah, never mind,
They were my offerings to you.
Along the wires
That connect my laptop to the mutiple pins
That connect my mobile to its charger
That connect the speakers to its charger
That connect my camera to its charger -
Wires, looped, coiled, twisted, splayed like intestines pulled out -
Along the wires walks an ant.
It could be walking (?) through an unending maze
Entrance and exit confused
A path directionless, destination-less .
What is the ant looking for - food, I presume
Though I would like to fantasize
That the ant is searching for -
Meaning of life? Ho ho ho!
Through the haze of smoke that drifts up from the cigarette
I try to look at the way I am going, the whys and wheres of it.
For me/ even for me
Who cant say a word to them;
there is, wherever I stand
a woman, in front of me
even a violet, or a bunch of ants is, for me. (I conspire with them)
and I touch her, my
hand a bamboo rake.
