There was a flash, so bright — as if
from the world’s largest camera,
come to capture everyone in
their work clothes.
We children ran to the top field
& turned & looked.
What new kind of cloud was this?
What new kind of tree?
It stood for hours on the horizon,
brewing its own weather, we guessed,
or setting fruit. No one could imagine just
how strong the wind, how terrible the rain.
But we were farmers’ kids.
When we saw white birds
streaming away toward the west,
we knew what to think.
She asked me what love was,
I gave her a simple answer,
Love is reflective, very reflective,
It' a two way busy street,
It appears better in pictures than in reality,
You never know when it is enough to love someone,
You never know where and when not to love,
You ask me a question to tell you that I love you,
It only need eight letters, but I will be lying to you,
For I'm a time bomb,
waiting for that last second count,
I blow everything close to me
old moon rising in Leo
the bones of ten thousand kings
litter the highway.
when we walked by the sea
sand, green water, snow
on the dunes "what's the use of-"
your head now in my
lap, the car sways
through the Milky Way
I'm lying soaked on the earth
with the moon
around me, tickling
my fingers, circle within circle
everyone asleep, the hills
pass. I smoke, the jug
half-empty. at this moment
Men never know
What they are doing.
They always make a muddle
Of their affairs,
They always tie their affairs
Into a knot
They cannot untie.
Then I come in
Uninvited.
They do not ask me in;
I am the radical,
The bomb thrower,
I untie the knot
That they have made,
And they never thank me.
