Emily Dickinson
'Twas here my summer paused
What ripeness after then
To other scene or other soul
My sentence had begun.
To winter to remove
With winter to abide
Go manacle your icicle
Against your Tropic Bride.
The green pine-needles shiver glassily,
Each cased in ice. Harsh winter, grey and dun,
Shuts out the sun.
But with live, scarlet fire,
Enfolding seed of sweet Junes yet to be,
Rose-berries melt the snow, and burn above
The thorny briar,
Like beauty with its deathless seed of love.
go with me
stay with me
keep me from the ice
night and the river
gun for our hearts
the sages in my head
trouble me
and my books are ice
evening brought
an absence as old
as a horse in the rain
I am in the oven
a whole month hungry
I hunt a new country under the ice
on my right eye
body built of water
which hand is first hand
water built of ice
and a little quiet
the din of ice
busy as we eat
supper and news
the ice on a road
a moth wing
the very me I am
set down in my notes
this day like clear money
to be called for when I please
out in woods I stay
longer than ice
longer than hurt
not able to stir all afternoon
the ice in my head
alone with my account
where I beg
my inner business is to stay present
with my ice
and my gin
I walk the dog
my mind full of work
by a river full of ice
dark lodgings
a board with my name on it
