I saw a Tiger's golden flank,
I saw what food he ate,
By a desert spring he drank;
The Tiger's name was Hate.
Then I saw a placid Lamb
Lying fast asleep;
Like a river from its dam
Flashed the Tiger's leap.
I saw a Lion tawny-red,
Terrible and brave;
The Tiger's leap overhead
Broke like a wave.
In sand below or sun above
He faded like a flame.
The Lamb said, "I am Love";
"Lion, tell your name."
going where we are safe
as a lamb brought to table
in our sandwich selves
as Eve within Adam
who is even at home
A lamb to change
into a bagpipe,
like angel to wife:
I sing in my chamber.
I take the king’s picture
and make it speak:
Pay me in kindness.
A lamb is not glad
to fetch money.
Even our accounts
with wine and anchovies.
The Lord, a lamb;
the sun, nothing—
a sheep’s head
with a war bark,
a public hatch,
sad money,
or a hand with
a high fever.
In the morning at my lute
the carrier will carry to the carrier
oranges and two barrels of sun
sake and sack, lamb and veal
a pocket to carry in his pocket
after supper at my flute
there is a huge gray bird out on the roof
he wants to eat my heart out
the daisies are asleep no-one knows.
I chased a galloping lamb up the road remember the day
it got away and galloped up the road and was gone ?
there is a huge gray bird on the roof outside
he wants to eat out my heart
the daisies are asleep and no-one knows.
I chased a galloping lamb up the road remember the day
it escaped the butcher’s van and galloped up the road.
The sun waters the pastures of heaven
With warm rains of light;
For the golden-lambkins to graze . .
The star-flocks of night.
