I’m going back to makeup.
Not the kerfuffle of my youth,
with eyeliner cattywumpus
to each brow,
not a sad attempt to erase
my decades on the road.
Just a streak of red on the lip,
a little taupe along the lid.
Flay off my false skin.
You can't see why I like to conceal
and highlight my face
(Or is it that you refuse to listen)
And continue to belittle me.
It isn't like anyone, especially me, would care.
But I dare you to try to kill my aplomb
Attempt to slice away my confidence
My confidence to appear cytherean
My confidence to enjoy my appearance
My confidence to exist in your denial
My confidence to rebel against you merely by existing
My confidence to kill, no, impale the black hearts of brutes
Like you.
You can try and you will fail
For I am a growing thorn, not a thorn, a spear
Heels and pumps
Fillers and botox
Layers of make up
Extensions and highlighters
Piercings and nail fixes
Yet I still feel like the ugly, short and skinny me.
Make up this
Make up that
Make up the burses on your face
Make up this
Make up that
Make up the scar on your cheek
Apply a little here
Apply a little there
For who does make up care
If you apply a little
You will become beauty
But you are already beautiful
Make up in hair
Make up everything
Why does make up care
Make up is mask
Stand up
Dont slouch
Dont make a face
Be serious
For crying out loud.
Fix your hair.
Fix your shirt.
Its crooked.
Just like yourself.
Dont laugh
Dont cry
You cannot have emotion.
Dont wear makeup.
You need makeup.
You are prettier with makeup.
Dont bully.
