“la volonté de tristesse”—drawing by Alejandra Pizarnik (from The Galloping Hour: French Poems)
one ought to remain at least
partially buried at all times
let lost pieces of oneself
get eaten by opossums
one must learn to read the paper
upside-down and backwards
give names to the flies
but not to the joyful spider
and when one is invited to dance
one must not cling as if drowning
one who is oneself
a sort of small salt lake
one must follow decorum
as one follows the weather
everything one knows about rhythm
Torture,
Madness.
Crazy,
Sadness.
Mind,
Wandering,
Thoughts,
Prolonging.
Contemplating,
Life.
Regretting,
Lies.
Holding,
Secrets.
Holding back,
Tears.
Just because I smile
Dont think Im okay
Dont believe I am acutally happy
Dont try to make me more "Happy" than I already am.
Just because i smile
It douse not mean I'm really happy
It douse not mean I'm myslef
It douse not mean life is perfect.
Just because I smile
Still ask if Im okay
I cannot wait until life gets better
Just because I smile----- Please try to help me get through this stage.
emotions ,
sometimes thick and sweet .
rolling down your spine
with joy .
bursting in your mind
with love .
emotions ,
other times cold and bare .
ripping at your heart
with pain .
plaguing your steps (slow and weak )
with sadness .
emotions ,
always there .
holding you down (a puppet )
with dominance.
The weight of my sadness pulls on my heart
the iron chains of my thoughts restrain me to my hatred
every movement feels like carrying the earth on my fingertips
it drains me of all hope and light
leaving only the shell of what once was a happy little girl
skipping through feels of cotton
now passing through different levels of hell
only to find that what she had been searching for was hers all along
the draught of her mind makes the painting dry up
and makes the summer leaves shrivel and die
only to be crunched by the crushing weight of a human
like a wave of anger
and what will be a board to float on
if only the universe would grant it
it's a wonderful thing
when you realise you aren't alone in this world
no matter how empty and depressed you feel
someone else has, or is going through it
sadness draws an invisible line
tying all the 3 am screamers together
when you all realise together that you are all going through the same thing
the most beautiful thing on this Earth happens
it may only last a second
or it may last an hour
but it stays with everyone involved for eternity
you all care for each other
you let the tears and smiles flow freely
because you know you won't be judged, as everyone else is doing the same
so when you feel like the world has shunned you away from everyone
just know that you are all shunned together
I am both the happiest and saddest person you will ever meet.
Coyote makes a diary of sadness
in the mountains, deserts
and plains where he lives.
alone, and he sings from it.
At night,
even where Pig can hear,
it moves
in and across Pig/s eyes
and in pig/ears, near
where his brain
ticks: what they will do is make
meat of me
bacon and chops
a-roast-pig, and whatever else is
tasteful (Coyote
sings from it.
who they are to me
what you are
and whether i feel
will feel go on feeling
without knowing after you
are gone i am sad very sad
at your going.
these are not old nouns or new nouns shedding
but no nouns unknowing nouns
going and am i recreating
the unknowing the going of them
you leaving by saying how sad
i am not showing even what
this sadness is because not knowing
not able to know nouns going.
displacing what i am recalling
"It's just a bad day,"
She always told everyone
But nobody ever considered that she was more reassuring herself than others
We laugh a little louder when there is sadness within us
Sometimes I wake up and feel Nebraska,
the whole state sleeping hip-side on my sternum.
I feel the endless roads parting the flood of corn
after a harvest. I rise in line
with the straight standing ghosts, feeling
fellowship alongside their dry family. We are
split ends of the dirt, empty of duty and purpose.
I have no greeting for this day. I have nothing to say
to the sad souls of my friends that are stretched
so far that the tension is almost shouting
fill me, fill me
How can this state be so long? So, nothing
But somehow that nothing is just sadness
you can't name, a Grassman rumored-beast
that passes barely through the edge of a photograph
yet can draw everything into its shadowy stride.
