The Light of Stars

The night is come, but not too soon; And sinking silently, All silently, the little moon Drops down behind the sky. There is no light in earth or heaven But the cold light of stars; And the first watch of night is given To the red planet Mars. Is it the tender star of love? The star of love and dreams? O no! from that blue tent above, A hero's armor gleams. And earnest thoughts within me rise, When I behold afar, Suspended in the evening skies, The shield of that red star.

I am young with the body of an old temple The fact that you could not break me down Is what scared you away.

They say

They say she's strong But they don't know She walks around on a daily bases On the verge of tears You don't have a clue That she's not fine.

Belligerent

they say i'm strong because what i've done is unbelievable. they say i am good and safe and dependable, that i am a soldier protecting my own. but if i am a soldier, then i must be at war. and if this is a war, then it is one that's never happened. a war that should have and is still waiting to.

Nolite ergo solliciti de me.

I am reliable, I am strong. I'm Mr. Go-getter! I'm never wrong! I'm a jokester. Lifting you high, I'm here for you; So don't you cry. Don't worry about me; I'll be alright. So long as you're doing ok, I'll be fine. I'm so relatable; I see your side, I'll be your example, Fill you with pride!

Against All Odds

Laying in a hospital bed, Fighting to stay alive, Friends and family preparing for the worst, Odds against me to survive, My eyes close, Images then appear, A multitude of memories, As I hear my mother in tears, Obstacles presented everyday, One hurdle after another, Tripping and falling to the ground, Scraped, bloodied, but refusing to lie down, From complications at birth, To epilepsy at 4, A man stealing my innocence, A grand mal and brain tumor,

Toil Created

Dutiful, underpaid bearer of burden (Although as oxen your past roles were cast, And dark the stage whereon your scene was set) The wearing of the yoke of toil has been your alchemist. Heights imperceptible, by sheer strength surmounted, Dire circumstance and hind'ring bars overcome, With sinew taut and stamina unyielding, Complete, you stand a toil created man.

Friends

Grief shall not be my friend! She shall not be Companion of my table, path or bed. She shall not share my salt nor break my bread, Nor walk nor weep nor dream nor wake with me: I will not trust her mournful company. Nor listen to her whisperings of the dead, Why should I heed her somber eyelid's red? Tears are but chains and I, I would be free! For grief would make a laggard of my will, And me, a puny thing of anguished need, A memory! And I would die at length, Close to the thought of you — and loving still: So will I choose a friend of stouter creed, The wingless, tearless thing the heart calls strength.

When I Rise Up

When I rise above the earth, And look down on the things that fetter me, I beat my wings upon the air. Or tranquil lie, Surge after surge of potent strength Like incense comes to me When I rise up above the earth And look down upon the things that fetter me.

Cosmopolite

Not wholly this or that, But wrought Of alien bloods am I, A product of the interplay Of traveled hearts. Estranged, yet not estranged, I stand All comprehending; From my estate I view earth's frail dilemma; Scion of fused strength am I, All understanding, Nor this nor that Contains me.
