I am so tired and weary,
So tired of the endless fight,
So weary of waiting the dawn
And finding endless night.
That I ask but rest and quiet -
Rest for days that are gone,
And quiet for the little space
That I must journey on.
A weary plea for rest and quiet that acknowledges endless nights and the need to simply stop
I AM SO tired I cannot move,
I would sit still and love.
I carried souls so long in pain,
I too would be a child again.
Man who is not child to woman
Is either rogue or more than human. —
I rested once upon my father's strength:
O to find peace in love at length!
Man, are you strong to take my proffered hand,
And to be kind when you command?
There was a saint who carried children up a steep,
Make me your child, and let me sleep.
Permission to lay down adult burdens and be cared for like a child, lulled into sleep
The trees wave in the wind,
The breeze feels cool against my skin.
The light shines through the trees onto my face.
All is quiet and calm.
I can finally relax,
Forget life's troubles and just
Breathe.
Cool breeze and dappled light invite you to finally relax, forget troubles and just breathe
I am tired,
not for lack of rest -
no, I slept quite well last night,
and I've had my coffee.
it's something deeper, something
inherently present, in the
fibres of my skin,
in my tendons, in my eyes.
I am exhausted,
fatigued by life,
by the noise and the silence,
the people, and
the empty rooms,
light and dark;
hope and
despair.
Names the deep fatigue that rest and coffee cannot cure, so you feel less alone in it
Melodies chime from piano keys
Softly humming you to sleep
Calloused fingers sliding a bow across strings
Biding your tears to fall onto the violin
Small lips humming a tune
Lulling your aching body to rest
Deaf ears feeling the beat of the drum
Stress leaking from your bones
Soft melodies and lulling tunes ease aching bodies and let stress leak from your bones
Put her away some place between two hills,
Away from the sea and the sun.
She has so much to think of — must she run
On your bright bosom always, Mother Earth ?
Put her away, and let some other birth
Bring her back to the sound of the sea, and the sun.
After she ponders under silent hills,
Beneath your swarming bosom, Mother Earth,
She will have words for her beloved one.
Lays a tired girl between two silent hills, away from sea and sun, to rest
So, my proud soul, so you, whose shining force
Had galloped with me to eternity,
Stand now, appealing like a tired horse:
Unharness me.
O passionate world! O faces of my friends!
O half-grasped meanings, intricate and deep! —
Sudden, as with a child, the tumult ends,
Silenced by sleep.
A proud soul, spent, asking to be unharnessed and silenced by sleep
Do you ever play loud music?
Lie down on your bed.
Stare at the ceiling.
Close your eyes.
Because you feel stress.
Depressed.
And tired.
Lying down with loud music to drown out stress, depression, and tiredness
come. take refuge in me.
indulge in me.
it's us against the world right now.
and that's ok, somehow.
sit. breathe. relax.
and let this time pass.
let's sleep through this storm.
together.
An invitation to take refuge and breathe while the storm rages outside
lying long I make
my heart light
the ground my antidote
to bed
Lying on the ground as an antidote to weariness, letting the heart grow light
up to my eyes
with seeing
I petition the night
to be the news now
Exhaustion with endless news, asking the night for silence instead
There's an unexpected tranquility
In falling into inability
-but then, no duty and no self-control
Will turn into one's disability.
How to work, when the least is hard enough,
Once after a break nobody acts tough?
Forcing oneself to become a mere bot...
A great facade, yet the edges stay rough.
It may take months for a simplistic soul
To regain its energy and turn whole
-exhaustion, as well as life in itself,
Do enjoy making one lose all control.
Such a terrible sin, a shameful act,
And with terrifying long-term impact...
Even when one leaves those bad days behind,
Their hidden presence becomes a dark fact.
The strange calm of collapse when exhaustion strips away all duty
teabags
tingling
heavy eyelids
Heavy eyelids and warm tea, a small ritual for quiet tiredness
Cover me over
In dusk and dust and dreams.
Cover me over
And leave me alone.
Cover me over.
You tireless, great.
Hear me and cover me,
Bringers of dusk and dust and dreams.
A plea to be covered by dusk and dreams, offering pure surrender and rest
weary clock within me
enough
go away
where I was promised school
they taught me sleep
Names the weary clock inside and the longing to tell it to go away
I think I need to go on medication
But it's not even that severe
There's many other people
Who needs it more than me
This feeling will subside like it always has
I just need to go through it once more
To deal with it in silence once more
Just one more time
Then I can sleep
The quiet push to hold on just once more until sleep finally comes
I am for sleeping and forgetting
All that has gone before;
I am for lying still and letting
Who will beat at my door;
I would my life’s cold sun were setting
To rise for me no more.
A tired wish to lie still and let the cold sun set for good
I am the eye
I am the eye
I am the eye in my mind storm
I am the eye in my mind storm
I am the eye in my mind storm
and I see
that all
is
still
and I see
that all
is
still
A mantra for when the mind storms: become the eye, and watch everything go still
all out of promise
a rare bee spent
the afternoon being
my mind coming to itself
A tired mind slowly coming back to itself on a quiet afternoon
i want to fall in love...
enough to write sonnets
about joy and warm embrace
alike to basking in the sun
because
i am tired...
of feeling love
like one would feel a storm
Tired of love that feels like a storm, craving warmth and peace instead
It all gets so overwhelming,
Everyday there's a new wonder,
Another grand thing, yet no wing
To safely hide under.
I've became frustrated
With the constant hysteria
-so complicated, often unrelated
Things always spreading through the area.
If only there was a little spare time
To sit down with pastries and coffee.
Only sometime, would it be a crime,
To let the world simply be?
Wouldn't less knowledge feel right?
With focus on one's own stuff,
No more urban blight, political fight
To overpower all else in a massive bluff?
Permission to set the noise down and let the world just be for a while
where I am done
as the sea by a great calm
what words would break me
will I think them enemies
Settling into wordless calm, where speech itself feels like a disturbance
Tired are your thoughts
Tired is your mind
But you can not fall asleep
Or you'll be left behind
Names the paradox of being too tired to sleep, the exhaustion that won't let you rest
I don't think anyone really understands how tiring it is
to act okay and always be
strong when in reality
you're close to
the edge.
The quiet tiredness of holding it together when you're close to the edge
The chair creaks as
I rise from it;
god, what a horrid
sound.
As I walk through
the room, the dust
scatters from me
like scared little bugs.
I tear those
sickeningly yellow
curtains
away from their charge
and flinch
at the equally
revolting
sun.
A restless, frayed mind worn down by small irritations and craving sleep
The tired wind creeps down the canyon
At nightfall.
By day it turns and flings itself
Against the granite face of the mountains.
The tired wind that battles all day and sinks into quiet rest at dusk
As a drenched, drowned bee
Hangs numb and heavy from a bending flower,
So clings to me
My baby, her brown hair brushed with wet tears
And laid against her cheek;
Her soft white legs hanging heavily over my arm
Swinging heavily to my movement as I walk.
My sleeping baby hangs upon my life,
Like a burden she hangs on me.
She has always seemed so light,
But now she is wet with tears and numb with pain
Even her floating hair sinks heavily,
Reaching downwards;
As the wings of a drenched, drowned bee
Are a heaviness, and a weariness.
The heavy, wet calm of a crying baby finally asleep, exhaustion turned to stillness
a mouth of judgement against me
an oven to bear
broke by the day’s work
I enter our book
of a bed
Exhausted after the day's work, the speaker finds rest in a shared bed as a refuge from judgment
Why is it that when I'm in a silent dark room all alone
I'm always so calming?
It has no sound effects
No one to be scared of
Nothing to think about
No danger to be afraid of
Why is the dark so soothing?
It's nothingness speaks with no voice
It isn't there to tell you, you should change
It says you're ok
where you are
How you are
Who you are
Why is there no one there with you?
to keep you calm
To protect you from the noise of the busy people
A silent dark room brings soothing calm, free of noise and judgment, inviting peaceful sleep
Guilt
There's guilt inside my heart
Numbness
I feel nothing as to whatever happened
Lethal
That same old verse is repeating itself
Doing the mundane activities
Eyes wide awake
Wake up like never got enough sleep
Put the blanket over my head
Trying hard to sleep again and again
Hibernate
What dates today
What time is it right now
How many days I've spent
Only to feel nothing
The blank exhaustion of numb days, hiding under a blanket, captures the fatigue of feeling nothing
I’ve been so swamped, I took
a mental health day, called in sick.
My poems are dwindling like unused
extra fingers. But the signs
weren’t good: first the car
that wouldn’t start, then no heat
in the apartment. And in between
the therapist saying you have to learn
to let go. Hell, I barely made it
to the appointment. How can I relax
when my mechanic charges twice
as much as my therapist? I ask
the radiator repairman, can’t you fix it
so it doesn’t knock?
I need things to be simpler than they are.
Today my car still isn’t running
Overwhelmed by work and money, the speaker seeks simple rest and lets the couch gently take her
Water flows so fast but
They can't match my thoughts
Disturbing my mind
Birds sang so sweet and louder
I looked up
That orange bright light made my day
Lighting up me and world
Telling me to let down everything go
As it goes
Racing thoughts settle as a sunset tells you to let everything go
Drowsy the noonday air,
Under the trees the still shadow
Like a fugitive fragment of night
Seeks shelter from the sun.
The bird has ceased singing,
The beggar unable to bear
The wealth of the sun
Spreads his torn garment,
To find peace in
The benign shadow of sleep.
Ah, lone soul like him,
I spread this rag of my song.
Under the tree of life
Over which blazes the sun of fate.
The calm of its shadow
Protects me, but where my peace?
A weary soul sheltering in shade and sleep from the blaze of noon
Day-long I hear life's sounds beat like the sea ;
Day-long, day-long
They sweep their deep tide-rhythms over me,
And as a song
Reiterated, fall unmeaningly.
Where once I bent life's echoes to my will,
Day after day
Following wings of sound over the sill
Far, far away.
Now my sick fancy lies inert and still.
Silence that slowly wraps me with the ease
Of dreamed-out sleep.
Quenches the sound of vague realities
Whose echoes keep
Their rhythms like old winds in drying seas.
Life's noise fades into a silence soft as dreamed-out sleep
in a home
rest
the whole day
off
A whole day off to rest at home, slow and unhurried
