Fragment: Death in Life
My head is heavy, my limbs are weary, And it is not life that makes me move.
Percy Bysshe Shelley
My head is heavy, my limbs are weary, And it is not life that makes me move.
Right from the start, Shelley gives us a speaker who feels almost physically crushed — head heavy, limbs weary, as if even the smallest movement takes enormous effort. But then the second line delivers the real shock: it’s not life that makes them move.
