Three lines create a small, vivid snapshot. Red umbrellas with pale cream centres catch the eye first, then the slow-moving line of geisha, then the silk shop named Matsuzaka-ya. There is no story, only a moment: a street, a procession, a shopfront. The speaker seems to be watching from nearby, quietly attentive to color, movement, and detail rather than trying to explain anything. The mood is calm, elegant, and slightly dreamlike, as if the scene has been captured in a Japanese woodblock print. The contrast between the bright red umbrellas and their soft white centres gives the image a delicate balance, while the word “procession” slows everything down. Even though the figures are passing, nothing feels hurried. The poem lingers on the beauty of a brief, ordinary sight and leaves it to the reader to feel its quiet charm.
