Color-Harmonies — Summary

Violet hills, Rosy mist, Limpid pool, Golden notes from sunset's lute For shadows Draped in green With purple feet To dance and swim Through irridescent undulatings. Dusk descends; Mauve cloudlets-- Dying butterflies-- Flit and fly and die In the opalescent ocean of mist That grows dark and still, Kisses away the last gold From the brow of the hills; Till the coral crescent With its wand of breeze Makes silver ripple-music On the pool's shadow-laden deeps.

A whole landscape seems to sing its way from sunset into moonlight. The speaker watches violet hills, rosy mist, and a still pool absorb the last golden notes of the sun, while shadows appear to dance and swim through shifting, iridescent colors. There is a feeling of enchanted stillness, as if the world is alive but holding its breath. Dusk deepens and mauve clouds flicker out like dying butterflies into a darkening opalescent mist. That image is fragile and a little mournful, but not heavy—just the natural close of a beautiful evening. Then the coral crescent moon rises, and a light breeze makes silver ripples on the water’s shadowy surface. The overall mood is dreamy, tender, and hushed: day doesn’t simply end; it melts into a cooler, silvery kind of beauty.
