As Parsifal of Old — Summary

As PARSIFAL of old stood in the hall, And saw with silent awe and wondering The Holy Grail uncovered by the king — Hearing within himself the still voice call; So I, but newly wakened, rapt by all The sweet enchantments that around me spring- Beholding daily in each living thing Love's miracle — am held in Beauty's thrall.

As Parsifal of old a knight became And gave his powers to a holy quest — All baser part consumed as by a flame — So I am fain, at Love's divine behest, To yield both heart and spirit to the claim That life makes visible and manifest.

The speaker looks back to the legend of Parsifal standing before the uncovered Holy Grail, struck silent by wonder and a call from within. That moment becomes a way to describe a personal awakening: everything around her feels enchanted, and she sees love’s miracle alive in every living thing. She is not simply admiring nature but caught up in beauty as a kind of spiritual force.

The second half shifts from wonder to commitment. Just as Parsifal became a knight and devoted himself to a holy quest, the speaker wants to offer heart and spirit to what life reveals. There is a quiet intensity here—awe, gratitude, and a willingness to be changed. The mood is reverent and tender, as though ordinary life, seen clearly, becomes a sacred calling.
