Minna VI — Summary

We met upon nearby hill-tops of our lives And shook the dust from us, revealing flame-laced clothes And eyeing each other in the same moment. You curved a longing to the wave of your arm: A longing for dark rest crossed by unbidden gifts. And my eyes deepened in answer.... Then we floated down to the valley between us: The valley ringed with smooth honey-combs of sleep.

Two people encounter each other at a kind of emotional summit—on “nearby hill-tops of our lives.” They cast off ordinary weariness, and what appears is something alive and fiery: “flame-laced clothes.” There is immediate mutual recognition, as if desire and understanding pass between them in a glance. The lifted arm carries a longing for “dark rest” interrupted by unexpected gifts—rest, but not emptiness. In reply, the speaker’s eyes deepen, suggesting he accepts or mirrors that wish. Then they leave their separate heights and float down together into a valley “ringed with smooth honey-combs of sleep.” The ending feels hushed and intimate, almost dreamlike: a shared descent into sweetness, safety, and rest. The mood is calm, charged with quiet longing, and slightly surreal, blending sensual attraction with a desire for peace.
