The Dream — Summary

lust-dreams coloured of someone forgotten then I seek him following heartpaths he left in the dream

in and out of rooms without walls he's near, invisible shines from his absence

words and gestures peeled away our eyes knew made notes informed our blood carved this dream

A lover has been forgotten, but the dream still carries the color of desire. The speaker seeks him by following the traces he left in the dream, the “heartpaths” that lead in and out of rooms without walls. There, he is near without being seen; his absence itself shines, so that not being there becomes a vivid presence. What passed between them has been stripped of words and gestures. Their eyes understood, and the body kept the knowledge—the speaker says the blood itself carved the dream. The mood is intimate and slightly eerie: longing without a clear object, memory that survives as feeling rather than fact. Desire, it seems, can outlast the person who caused it, living on as a dream the body repeats and follows.
