The speaker describes a quiet arrangement between people: everyone silently agrees to miss the point of a conversation now and then, and to start over as if nothing happened. The title fits this well. "Zeroing in" suggests focus, yet the poem is about deliberately failing to land on what matters.

The tone is wry, even a little teasing. "We work so well together, friend" sounds friendly, but it carries an edge, since the cooperation is really a shared dodge. The odd word "Ignore-ance" blends "ignore" with "ignorance," hinting that not knowing may be partly a choice. The speaker seems to feel resigned rather than angry: this avoidance has a purpose, but "none of us can mend" it. The open parenthesis that never closes, and the abrupt ending, leave the thought hanging, which mirrors the unfinished conversations the poem describes. The mood is uneasy, ironic, and quietly sad.
