Asta La Vista Baby, subtitled "Just confused," is about the moment after being hurt, when the speaker can't work out how she is supposed to feel. Her questions come one after another: should she cry or smile, and which expression should she wear? She admits that happiness is "easier to fake," which suggests she is tempted to hide behind a mask rather than show what she actually feels.
From there the poem widens. She wonders whether "good" and "bad" even mean anything, and pictures people marching like soldiers, obeying "silent commands and curses." Next to an old tree, she calls herself a "broken, wilted girl," so weak that she feels she has less will than a plant.
The ending is bleak. We make memories only to forget them, so she asks what the point of pain is, if it leaves nothing behind. The mood is lost, tired, and quietly bitter, and the short, clipped lines make the confusion feel raw.
