In just three short lines, Dave Bonta sketches a woman who can't stop talking about her horses. The poem gives us very little: no scene, no backstory, no name beyond the title, "Rider." But that small amount is enough to show how much the subject means to her. She talks "all morning," which suggests she has plenty to say and no wish to stop.

The speaker seems to be watching her, perhaps listening, and noticing something beyond her words: "a joy in her step." That detail moves from speech to body. Her happiness shows in how she walks, not only in what she says. The speaker doesn't comment or judge, which makes the moment feel warm and quietly admiring.

The mood is light, affectionate, and unhurried. The title adds a nice touch, since it names her by what she loves to do. Judging by the poem's brevity, it wants us to catch one bright moment of someone fully absorbed in her passion.
