Why do you do these things to my heart? You pull me in and hold me close, And just when I've burned your image into my brain, You let go. Disappearing into the haze surrounding my thoughts- and for a while I don't know what to do. It's strange to not need someone and to need them all at once- To want to push them away and hold them close at the same time. It's true that things were never supposed to turn out this way, Friends, right? Always friends- who never admit the things we thought or said or breathed in hushed whispers over the phone lines because we were too afraid to be heard. Always friends- Sometimes I want nothing more, Than to be the one who has given you a reason to smile, Even if its the slightest quirk of your lips, That you try to hide beneath your fingertips, I want to be that one reason, That lone desert flower bursting through despite the heat- Or the sun- Or the sand. Despite it all, Despite all the reasons why it's wrong, Despite all the times you've turned me away, It still means everything to me, To have you utter one word, To greet me or- Two to ask me how I am or- Three to say everything that I once felt. Or still do. Who knows right? Because you're the epitome of a tumbleweed, You never stay, And just when I think I've caught you, You're gone again, But I don't mind it at all. I don't mind losing you, As long as somehow- You come back, You come back to me again.
