Fade — Summary

It fades away Like my memories It all fades away Like my emotions Please just stay Because that's all I need Right now It fades away So sick of life So sick of this game Don't want to play So please stay I don't want you to fade away

Dominic Black's "Fade" is a short, raw plea from someone who feels everything slipping away. The speaker says memories and emotions are fading, and the repeated line "It fades away" works like a heartbeat that keeps coming back, whether the speaker wants it or not. Nothing in the poem tells us exactly who "you" is, so the person being begged to stay could be a lover, a friend, or even a part of the speaker's own self.

The feeling here is exhaustion and numbness, mixed with a quiet kind of desperation. "So sick of life" and "Don't want to play" make living sound like a game the speaker has lost interest in. Yet the plain, simple wording of "Please just stay" shows that one thing still matters: the presence of this other person. The mood is bleak and fragile. There is little decoration, just a tired voice asking not to be left alone as everything else dims.
