fallen — Summary

I did this really stupid thing called falling in love. Peoples parents do it all the time The way they described it seemed so joyous But it's not so great after all. I fell in love. But the person I fell for didn't catch me. I fell into a pit of disparity. And landed on nails I think they were labeled loneliness. Then the person I fell for helped me up But they dropped me I guess my emotions were to heavy I ended up being stabbed in the back By broken glass but they had heart written all over them in sharpie. I hesitantly took the person's hand again and they helped out of the deep hole They held me tight and rested their hand over my heart I felt something dig into me And realized it was them They ripped my heart out When they Found Out It was Broken They trashed it And now I'm sitting alone once more debating should I fix the peices and give it to them once more or should I allow my memories of them to fade Just for a little while Till it's time to once again wake To trust someone with my broken pieces Allowing them fix it Keep it And cherish it

Gothic_Outkast's "fallen" treats falling in love as a painful accident rather than a fairy tale. The speaker begins with a wry, almost bitter joke, calling love "a really stupid thing" after hearing it described as joyous. From there, the poem piles up images of injury: a pit of despair, nails labeled loneliness, a stab from broken glass. Each time the loved one offers help, they end up hurting the speaker more. The hardest moment comes when they hold the speaker close, then rip out the broken heart and trash it.

The mood is raw, hurt and weary, but it isn't hopeless. The ending shifts to a quiet question: should the speaker mend the pieces and offer them again, or let the memories fade? The final lines lean toward hope. The speaker imagines waking someday to trust another person, hoping they will fix the heart, keep it, and cherish it.

Dark soothing lonely silence

Why is it that when I'm in a silent dark room all alone I'm always so calming? It has no sound effects No one to be scared of
