Why me?
Why did this have to happen to me? If I forgot all those years why couldn’t it stay that way? How could these things have been done to me? Why did no one intervene to keep that man away? Why did no one care? How could they all miss the two thousand yard stare? How could they not know he came in my room at night? Did they not notice the new way I’d flinch in fright, Every time he came near or when they turned out my light? He took twelve years. Twelve. Long. Horrible. Nightmarish. Years. Twelve years I lost from my young life, Ages six to eighteen were filled with strife, They missed my tears and all the bruises, They missed his looks and his intrusions, Years later I remember that time, Without any reason and very little rhyme, The night I tried to tell was when he truly broke me, I lost my mind and nothing could console me, I lost my mind and all trust in human kind, Even then no one surmised, The extent of all he had done. Even now only he knows all that he has done, The battle in the end he may have won, But the war is not yet finished, the fat lady has yet to sing, There can still be a day when all of the truth of those nights will ring. One day I will remember everything that happened to me.
