Ja.xx's "Broken sink" is about the aftermath of a breakup, told in the raw, unpolished voice of someone who can't stop counting. The speaker knows exactly how long it has been since they last spoke: 21 days, 5 hours and 30 minutes. Yet they keep telling themselves not to count, and that they don't need the person who left. The poem keeps catching them in that contradiction.
The broken sink ties it together. Its noise wakes the speaker from a dream about the "fresh start" the couple once talked about, and the faucet, which broke before the person left, becomes a reminder of everything unfixed. By the end, the sink spreads outward into a broken house, heart and dreams, and the speaker even hates fresh starts, the very thing they are supposed to want. The mood is tired, bitter and sad. The loose punctuation and slips in the writing make it feel like unedited thoughts, as if the speaker is overthinking in real time.
