When You Were Here Before

When you were here before, You never thought of me. You and only you, That was how you thought. You only wanted Things your way And you threw mine aside Like yesterday's newspapers. When you were here before, You crushed my spirits Like cockroaches. Your footprints on the floor And your shadows on the walls Are the landmarks one can use To detect the ghosts Of my dead, decaying dreams. When you were here before, You ruined this place. To wash the sadness Out of this house Would require an ocean And maybe half another. You're not welcome anymore Because you ruined everything When you were here before.
