Nothing Great Can Stay

Nothing great can stay. Everything's sweet for awhile, But then it goes down. A castle becomes a house of cards And kings become statues. The great empires become Sunken cities full of Demoralized nobodies, Half buried in foolishness. The children studying And waiting to be leaders Become laborers waiting for their overtime, For nothing great can stay. Rooms become walls, Schools become prisons And inevitably, The stockpile of hope We have when we are young Is depleted as we age. Every castle in the world Becomes a house of cards Because nothing great can stay.
