The Simple Ones

Jessea L. VaughanContemplative

Imagine a story That's stuck in the middle. The middle never changes After the first plot point. And no one wants change, No one wants The story to end. This place Is our place. This story Is our story. We are the simple ones, The ones who don't want it Any other way Because we don't know It any other way exists. We are the ones Who live in a bubble. And around this bubble, There is an aura Of stagnant energy Which seems to protect us. We enter it, We stay awhile We pass through it. We are the simple ones, The ones who stay in one place. To us, life is here, Life is now. There is no future, There was no past Because every day is the same to us. And It's been like this For so long That we have forgotten That anywhere else exists. We have forgotten That one can be Anything other than What we are now. We have the same conversations And relive the same moments Because that's all we've known. We are the simple ones. Our story is stuck in the middle And the plot never changes.
