These Lies

Which bring no pain Harmless half-truths Fictions of no consequence: These lies You can see them A mile away In the dark With one eye closed Yet it makes no difference You're too busy eating Sleeping Going to work every day Plugging the numbers Into the formula To get x by itself: These lies You see them now Because the numbers weren't adding up And the shoes wouldn't fit You put on the jersey Someone shot at you From a t-shirt gun overhead But it's the wrong one and Now you're your own enemy: These lies That ruin us now The food has spoiled But the expiration date is next week The shoes don't fit us now Even though they're the right size According to the box The numbers don't add up now They told us we had Enough to last a week But there's only enough for a day: These lies Horrific half-truths Fictions of the ultimate consequence.
