When people talk about depression About loneliness About that dark place that infests all our minds, They equate it to drowning

I say false, It is not drowning But rather being lost at sea

Drowning is pain, Drowning is struggle, Drowning is impulse and the bodies reaction to what happening, Drowning is the path to death.

Now, Being lost at sea is closer I think.

Being lost at sea is suffering, Being lost at sea is pain, Being lost at sea is struggle,

However

While lost at sea, You are aware of your situation, But can "do nothing",

While lost at sea, You are alone, But can still remember a time, Long ago when you weren't

While lost at sea, You are subject to the ebb and flow of the waves, Going wherever they take you,

While lost at sea, You slowly die, Unlike drowning.

While lost at sea, You can wait for help, A help that may never come,

Or you can paddle, Try and fight what is happening, And maybe in a few days, A shore will appear ahead, And maybe you reach that shore, Exhausted from the effort.

And that is the worst part about being lost at sea, Having options but not knowing what to choose, Both are gambles, Both could end you.

Drowning always leads to death, But being lost at sea does something far worse, It extends the suffering,

It gives you hope
