INTERVIEWING MRS. WILKINSON: The Ring

She left me this ring. It’s emerald, see? The Queen gave it to her one time when she was there. I was a little scared of it to tell the truth, but when I told the Queen, she said I should wear it on a chain instead of on my finger. There’s likely no power left in it, but why ask for trouble? So I don’t. I just keep it here, and now and again I take it out and look at it. It reminds me of Gram, and the times I’ve been up in their land, all the pretty things I’ve seen.

I haven’t been there for a long time, but I guess someday they’ll come get me and I’ll stay. Anyway, that’s what I hope. I’ve got nobody here now, and I like it there pretty well.
